Star Trek

STAR TREK

JJ Abrams

now goes to the American film remake, prequel, and rebooting. A return like that of "Star Trek" on the big screen was quite predictable. Not so predictable Instead it was the success of the undertaking by JJ Abrams. Must have been hard to deal with three television seasons and as many as 10 films starring the spaceship Enterprise and its diverse crew.
James Tiberius Kirk, the son of a brave Starfleet commander, is persuaded to abandon his life as a young rebel and to sign up to follow his father's footsteps. Succeeds with a trick to take part in an expedition to rescue sull'Enteprise, where they collide with Spock, the Vulcan first (actually half-human mother's side) to be admitted to Starfleet Academy. Together, with the help of other crew members will face the bad guy, or the Romulan captain.
Abrams takes advantage of an exceptional cast. All roles are fantastically covered, especially that of Spock, played by Zachary Quinto, Sylar on the show "Heroes", who seems born to take the place of Leonard Nimoy, who appears in the film as if to pass the baton. Un'irriconoscibile Eric Bana is hiding under the guise of the Romulan captain, while Simon Pegg plays the role of the sympathetic Scotty.
is not an ordinary love story or a detailed implementation of the fanatical elements of the saga to characterize the film. I'm pretty frantic and breathless action, excellent special effects, music Michael Giacchino and the now proven particularly intense humorous vein, real signature of the director, that is not defined absolutely a "trekkie", indeed ...
The film, however, agree with everyone, both fans of the immortal series "Star Trek" that can be satisfied not to have seen a radical revolution (on the contrary there are many good quotes and interpretations), and young audiences and all those who think that the greeting "V" means the Vulcan " May the Force be with you. "

Theatrical adaptation of the new novel by Banana Yoshimoto, Chie-Chan and I tells the story of Kaori, a woman of forty years, and the deep relationship that binds her to her cousin Chie-Chan , five years younger. It's a special bond between the two women, as to make impossible a life outside of this core, an emotional dependence that undermines the free existence, free of ties, the Japanese woman in search of emancipation. Banana
resumes in this book, light and deep, some of his recurrent themes: loneliness, living with death and, above all, the family as the invention: the author opposed to biological family, a strong crisis in modern society, an unconventional family, within which, in this case, the men's pole is not. As always, Yoshimoto shows us characters who have no roots, orphans (one very strong scene in the novel is one where Chie-chan discovers the true circumstances of his birth and his mother's suicide) that attempt to overcome this trauma "building" another life, almost a fable, which helps to explain their reality, permitting them to enter adulthood.
Fashion and Italy, are two leitmotifs of the novel. Another obsession of contemporary Japan. Although not individually affected fashion style, the two women live in constant glamorous. Kaori works in a boutique luxury of her aunt, and is often forced to travel between Tokyo and Milan to buy clothes and while not cultivating interest in fashion has a strong aesthetic sense, notes and comments on the beauty of the clothes and the quality of fabrics. Most likely the reason the story is right here: the contrast between the public life of representation, the superficiality of the fashion circles, and the silent and peaceful behavior (the limit of autism) private life, made up of monotonous gestures, plates invariably cooked the same way and of a single song repeated.
The mystery of the secluded life of the two protagonist has the power to fill the need for affection in a more complete and satisfying than the family home or a man could do.

The Song of Sorrow

THE SONG OF PALOMA

Claudia Llosa

Blind. A song that seems a lament. An old lady talks about his past, the terror in her eyes, pain in his veins, and milk with which she raised her child, a daughter of violence. In the opening scene there is the whole tragedy of the story of Faust, the protagonist, was born from one of the many rapes that occurred during the twenty-year conflict that took place in Peru, at the end of the last century, where the violation of human rights had become part of everyday life horrible. Claudia Llosa's film, which won the Berlin Film Festival, is made of the same pain of his characters, suffering with them, and leaves no way out to the viewer, forced to live the suffering of the film, his silences, his painful secret.
Fausta live in poverty on the outskirts of Lima, the impending marriage of his cousin seems to overshadow his mother's death. The nightmare of which she has witnessed from the womb of his mother seems to accompany every step, to the point of putting on a potato to push it into the vagina to have a shield, a protection against ghosts the past that do not give peace to the present, despite the war has been over for years. The only way out against the fear is singing, free improvisation, consoling as a little girl trying to ward off nightmares humming, so Fausta through song tries to free his soul from the terror in which she grew up.

Claudia Llosa recounts with sensitivity all-female a story that could be true, the daughter of history that Peru has experienced the hard way. The images are essential, limited camera movements, the eye of the director seems to get lost in the poverty of the slums, calling the viewer to do likewise. The sets charm, warm and inviting, as if to offer a way out of the silent suffering of the film. For the young Fausta digest milk pain mean to find the road that leads from fear to freedom.

In Italy you know, we always believe very clever, and every fashion, every trend is a new reason to build around any thing, even if done badly, provided it is in line with the latest fashion. And if the ultimate is the phenomenon of Facebook, the world's most popular social network (with 8 million users only in Italy), how can we fail to get by on a movie to make the most of the wave and draw more users to the movies / viewers as possible? But 2 +2 does not always 4, because the eight episodes of this comedy are nothing a bunch of unlikely characters that show the practice of the lesser-used social networks and have little to do with the phenomenon in question. But let's step back.
Facebook is largely based on the possibility of finding themselves on the internet with friends and acquaintances in a long time had gone missing (classmates, ex-girlfriends, etc.), and of course keep in touch with people living in miles away. That, however, shows that this episodic film is a totally fraudulent side of everything: there is an Australian surfer who pretends to tow the girl he likes, who purports to be a mysterious mission to Mogadishu to cheat a stranger, who ends up in hospital because it no longer its twenty thousand (!) friends on the profile, and so on. In this the film tries to exaggerate the more absurd side of the users of social networks, you might as well accept the idea if everything was not treated with superficiality and an approximation as to intention to leave the room before the end credits (and would be a mistake, given that the episode is just nicer after them).

However entrust the thankless task of turning these eight episodes at a handful of young directors was a rather appreciable, although to be honest the end result is not was exactly what you want: more than giving newcomers the chance to show off, the film seems to be a suicide mission for soldiers beginners. A film aimed at users of Facebook, which seems written specifically for Facebook users do not like: a true crime film.

Che - Guerrilla

THAT - GUERRILLA

Steven Soderbergh

or Victoria or falling asleep

be understood as the operation carried out by Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara? Two separate films, independent or a single work, broken into two halves? The truth probably lies somewhere in between: on the one hand, the two parties are the decisive moments of the intense life of Che (not Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, whose story was told from the beautiful Walter Salles' The Motorcycle Diaries "), making it a biopic to be uniform over the last decades of the Argentine revolutionary. The other two films but this is very different: whereas the first excelled (in the assembly, in the narrative style), the second turns out to be rather disappointing.
Even the title - Guerrilla - one senses that the games will be different this time: the policy debate (one of the highlights of "The Argentine") disappears from the narrative, the jumping time of the previous film leaves room for a fabula linear and quite simple, also the character of the same That seems to miss the many nuances that had helped to bring out the charm in the first film. Differences somewhat fanciful for a work conceived as a unique film, partly because the Bolivian jungle is not so different from the Cuban Sierra. Perhaps that (and hence the movie) without a complementary character as Fidel Castro loses much of its charm? Certainly the second part of Soderbergh's Castro without going to lose a landmark political imperative to turn into two hours of jungle life, boring, flat, where the dead have the better of the guerrillas and their commander. In addition, the Cuban revolution, useless say, has a charm entirely different from the improbable Bolivian revolution, where Che is an already reported, have already said, have seen and, even worse, not wanted.

"Guerrilla" lacks precisely where "The Argentine" was convincing, leaving us perplexed for a second part, well below expectations, where the end of the master is revealed almost a liberation. In the beautiful "Transamerika" Modena City Ramblers, about the death of Che, said that "reigns in the shadow of the Great Valley." Because of Soderbergh's time to reign in Valley Grande is only boredom.

Kevin Macdonald

Manual journalism

Once Filippo Sacchi wrote that the film has only one thing: the cinema. Just as in love has only one thing: love. Largely for this reason the latest work by Kevin Macdonald deserves all our support: why, despite a final plot twist a bit 'forced and a narrative structure that does not add much to the genre, this is pure cinema, 100%, which goes beyond what might be his faults to go straight to the objective: to insinuate its long tentacles clutching the seats of the cinema and the public in the intrigues of the plot, backed by the look sly excellent Russell Crowe (Gladiator experience).

the veteran print McAffrey Cal gets a piece on the murder of a young mugger who was killed the night before to gunshot wounds. In preparation comes the news of the accidental death of the young assistant of a politician on the rise, Stephen Collins: yes (s) speaks of a relationship between the politician and the girl, a juicy news gossip blog for the online version of the journal , given by the obstinate Della Frye. The two journalists, despite initial suspicions (interesting in that sense the hint of controversy between paper-based journalist and blogger, a theme very timely which merit further apart), they will find a relationship between the two cases, behind which hides a multi-million dollar scandal.

Macdonald paid tribute to a loud voice, "All the President's Men" (probably the masterpiece essential to the world of journalism), showing the work behind a journalistic investigation, and at the same time do not clean world of politics. Days and nights dedicated to pursuing a voice, a touch, a source, all to be able to send the article in print, to scream out loud at a version of the truth, that of a journalist who does not seem to exist anymore. And finally on securities Tail roundabouts can print words and sweat of an article on the notes suffered dell'azzeccata "Long as I can see the light" of Creedence.

Family Reunion

MEETING OF FAMILY

After 11 years, the Danish director Thomas Vinterberg, returns with a film presented at the last of the Rome Film Festival and distributed only now in Italian cinemas.
The young chef Sebastian discovers he is the son of the great opera singer Karl Kristian Schmidt, the visit of the latter in his village of origin. Raised with the belief that his father had committed suicide, Sebastian has stuttered since childhood el'inaspettata revelation will only worsen the situation. In addition, after so many years, finds an old flame of her childhood, Mary, with whom resumed a love affair for which leave his girlfriend Claudia. But the tangled intrigue and misunderstanding each other until the fateful party thrown for the famous singer.
The "funny side" of the film is enhanced by a series of brilliant and funny characters such as the companion of Sebastian's mother or colleagues and friends of the protagonist struggling with the bizarre Swedish chef, in charge of dinner for the party in honor of Schmidt. According to the same
Vinterberg, "Family Reunion" is an actual remake of "Festen - family celebration" (film completely adhering to the rules dictated by the Dogma 95 film movement of which the director is a great exponent, together with names like Lars Von Trier and Kristian Levring) in the key of comedy, telling in a fun crisis and family conflict.
But here we are close to the Dogma style. The assembly is fragmented and the obvious errors of fitting this is offset by a bright picture and vivid colors, bringing to an end instead of obscuring the scene, the lights.

Vinterberg is able to offer exciting and impressive visual sequences, such as the run-up to Sebastian on all fours among the colored balloons on the table for dinner. Everything is looked upon with lightness and irony, el'alone drama surrounding the issues addressed are dissolved humor and the desire for truth and growth.
